We wish you an enjoyable stay at your chosen Austinburg Area Ohio hotel. Seasoned travellers will become acquainted with the famous hotels in their destinations. Claridge's in London, the Peninsula Hotel in Hong Kong (featuring in the Clark Gable movie Soldier of Fortune), the Villa D'Este on Lake Como, the Four Seasons Hotel in Hong Kong, the Grand Hyatt Macau, the Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town and the Renaissance Suzhou Hotel in Suzhou China. are among the historic, famous and/or luxurious of the international hotels.

Ghosts, Monsters, Legends, Myths, Scary Stories and Folklore in Ohio

The story of Indian fighter Bill Quick, who had ninety-nine human skulls displayed as trophies in his cabin near Kenton and, on his death bed, made his son Tom swear to add the hundredth, little knowing that the hundredth trophy in the cabin would be placed there by a Native American warrior and would be Tom's own skull (there certainly was a Tom Quick, notorious for killing Native Americans indiscriminately, and the legend probably grew from a desire to create justice in legend if not in reality); the ghost of Mrs Squire in Squire's Castle near Cleveland; the hauntings of Franklin Castle (a private residence, so do not linger), Cleveland, including a crying child and unexplained music (in spite of its name and reputation as Ohio's most haunted house, it looks to me like a typical Victorian dwelling); the frog-like dwarves of Loveland; and stories of Johnny Appleseed, a real nurseryman and missionary whose real name was John Chapman (he planted many apple nurseries in the Mohican area of Ohio), are among the true ghost stories, myths and legends of Ohio.

The Cry Baby Bridge in Norton, Akron, where at midnight the ghostly sight and sound of a mother throwing her baby into the river may be witnessed; the spectre of William H Morgan in Glamorgan Castle, Alliance; the phantom lioness, usually heard rather than seen, who follows visitors in Cincinnati Zoo; the girl in denims and tennis shoes, who sits on her own gravestone, in Woodland Cemetery and Arboretum, Dayton; the "melon heads" of Kirtland, similar to those of Connecticut and Michigan (I also suspect that the New York legend of swollen-headed Catskill gnomes owes its origin to melonheads); and the entrance to Hell created by Satanists at Satan's Hollow in Blue Ash, Cincinnati, are other legendary tales of ghosts and haunted places in Ohio.

Attractions and Sights/Places to See in Ohio

Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden; Chateau Laroche in Loveland; Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Garden in Columbus; Cleveland Metroparks Zoo; the stately Stan Hywet Hall and Garden in Akron; Glamorgan Castle in Alliance (now part of a school but tours are sometimes arranged); Cleveland Museum of Art; the art deco Cincinnati Museum Center; the tomb of President McKinley in Canton; the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland; Fountain Square in Cincinnati; and Cedar Point amusement park, are among the attractions of Ohio.

    Home

America welcomes careful drivers; also pilots and passengers, for that matter. Be as familiar with famous places as you might like to be with famous people. Salt Lake City, Skagway, Washington DC, Seattle, Atlanta, Anchorage, San Francisco, New Orleans, New York, Savannah, Dallas, Minneapolis, Fort Lauderdale, Honolulu, Detroit, Los Angeles, Sitka, Juneau, Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, Miami, Houston, Fairbanks, Philadelphia, Corpus Christi, Atlantic City, St Louis, San Diego, Phoenix, Boston, Albuquerque, Sacramento, Santa Fe, Chicago, Kansas City and Indianapolis. If you have seen those cities, you have at least seen the most famous ones in the USA. Visiting all fifty states is something that even most Americans cannot manage but it is possible to visit those cities, as well as other iconic destinations such as Marvellous scenery and sea life in Kenai Fjords National Park, Native American nations such as the Navajo and the Hopi, Mount Rushmore, Route 66, the beach at Waikiki in Hawaii, the plantations and bayous of the Mississippi Delta, the Everglades, the Grand Canyon, the Arctic wilderness of Alaska, the Disney resorts, the Ozarks, rodeos, Glacier Bay National Park, Yosemite National Park, Mount McKinley and fabulous wildlife in Denali National Park, the Adirondacks, the Florida Keys, Yellowstone National Park, Niagara Falls, Hawaiian volcanoes such as Mauna Loa, the Okefenokee Swamp, Mount Rainier National Park, the wild west town of Tombstone, the Appalachians, the California coastline and Bryce Canyon. Casually mentioning places that you have visited can be as impressive as mentioning the names of celebrities that you have met. We at camelopard.com wish you a pleasant journey in the USA.
