We wish you an enjoyable stay at your chosen Osprey Florida hotel. The famous and/or historic hotels of the world are major destinations in their own right. The Chelsea Hotel in New York, the Savoy Hotel in London, the Venetian Macao Resort Hotel in Macau, the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego, the Goldeneye Hotel (once the home of James Bond author Ian Fleming) in Jamaica's Oracabessa Bay, the Cascades Hotel at Sun City in South Africa and the Hotel Baur au Lac in Zurich. are some of the world's most famous hotels.

Ghosts, Scary Stories, Legends, Myths, Folklore and Monsters in Florida

The ghosts of Miss Sunshine Gibson and Captain Wood in the historic, Cracker styled, Gibson Inn in Apalachicola; the Saint Augustine Monster, a real carcass that has never been positively identified; the smelly and sasquatch-like Skunk Ape; the Fountain of Youth, searched for by the conquistador Ponce de Leon; ghostly apparitions at the Hyatt Regency Orlando, formerly the Peabody Hotel; the ghost of a former owner that haunts the Inn at New World Landing, Pensacola; and the phantom lighthouse keeper at the St Augustine Lighthouse and Museum, are among the true ghost stories, myths and legends of Florida.

The Wiccademous Grave of the atmospheric shrimping village Fernandina Beach, on Amelia Island, where the spirit of a witch causes the earth to tremble; the toilet-lurking Two Striped Telamonia spider; the phantom maid who makes a nuisance of herself in the historic St Francis Inn, St Augstine; the ghost "Vivian" who haunts the Hunter Arms Inn in St Cloud; the pink fog of Tomoka State Park that leaves behind only the dismembered skeletons of those it envelops; the ghost of the Jameson Inn, quite modern but already haunted, on Cracker Barrel Drive in Crestview; and sewer rats so huge that people have petted them like dogs, are other legendary tales of ghosts and haunted places in Florida.

Unexplained phenomena at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, Miami (ghostly events are associated with the fact that the hotel was used as a soldiers' hospital during WW2); the thoroughfare popularly called Bloody Bucket Road and the similarly prefixed bridge and woods in Wauchula where, at night, blood appears in the water below the bridge and the sound of crying babies is heard from the woods (a murderous midwife is said to have been haunted by a bucket that supernaturally filled with the blood of her victims, which she tried to pour out at the bridge); the spectre in a top hat that haunts the Vinoy Renaissance Hotel in St Petersburg; the Fairchid Oak of Ormond Beach, haunted my a male spectre, possibly a suicide; the pink, horned, serpentine monster of the St John's River; unusual hauntings of a Victorian guesthouse, Artist House, in Key West (the turret is said to be haunted, both by Anne, the wife of artist and author Robert Eugene "Gene" Otto and by the malevolent spirit of a sailor doll, also called Robert - the "possessed" doll itself is sometimes displayed in the Fort East Martello Museum or at the Old Post Office and Customhouse and is claimed to be the inpiration for the Chucky movies); and spirits of the Agustin Inn in the St Augustine Historic District, including a man in white, who walks through walls and who may also be the ghostly Chiles who "goes bump in the night", are more weird folklore associated with Florida.

The gash-throated phantom of Luc Simone Aury that haunts the area outsde of the Amelia Island Museum of History, formerly the Old Jail where he was hanged, in Fernandina Beach (his attempt at suicide failed and his throat was stitched by a surgeon but the long drop of the gallows caused his wound to open and shower the horrified spectators with blood - Aury couldn't have planned it better if he had tried!); hauntings at Ocean Key Resort and Spa, Key West; mysterious orbs and noises at the Historic Hollywood Beach Resort; the White Lady, Julia, who haunts Rolling Acres Road in appropriately named Lady Lake, along with a hooded phantom; the phantom of the Olde Marco Inn on Marco Island; Umatilla Cemetery with its screaming woman and phantom children; the numerous ghosts of the Cassadaga Hotel, Cassadaga, which embraces its phantom guests and usually has a professional psychic on hand (spectres include girls Katlin and Sarah, Gentleman Jack with his trademark cigar and a rather naughty ghost called Arthur); the Elusive Muck Monster of Lake Worth Lagoon; spectral lights and other mysterious phenomena at the Indian River Inn & Conference Center in New Smyrna; and strange phenomena at the historic Mary Phifer McKenzie House, part of the Sweetwater Branch Inn in Gainesville, are yet more strange folktales of Florida.

Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, which extends into Georgia; Osceola National Forest where the Skunk Ape is said to have been seen; the 220 square mile Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge at Cape Canaveral, where you may see grazing manatees and sea turtles as well as space launches; J.N.
