  • Today's Camelopard Tip

We wish you an enjoyable stay at your chosen Toledo Area Ohio hotel. The famous and/or historic hotels of the world are major destinations in their own right. The Polana Hotel in Maputo, the Belmond Copacabana Palace in Rio de Janeiro, Hotel La Mamounia in Marrakesh (Marrakech), the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Hong Kong, the Villa D'Este on Lake Como, the Porto Bay Rio Internacional Hotel in Rio de Janeiro and the Hotel Lisboa and its famous casino in Macau. are among the historic, famous and/or luxurious of the international hotels.

Folklore, Myths, Monsters, Ghosts, Scary Stories and Legends in Ohio

The phantom lioness, usually heard rather than seen, who follows visitors in Cincinnati Zoo; the hauntings of Franklin Castle (a private residence, so do not linger), Cleveland, including a crying child and unexplained music (in spite of its name and reputation as Ohio's most haunted house, it looks to me like a typical Victorian dwelling); the "melon heads" of Kirtland, similar to those of Connecticut and Michigan (I also suspect that the New York legend of swollen-headed Catskill gnomes owes its origin to melonheads); the spectre of William H Morgan in Glamorgan Castle, Alliance; and the frog-like dwarves of Loveland, are among the true ghost stories, myths and legends of Ohio.

The Cry Baby Bridge in Norton, Akron, where at midnight the ghostly sight and sound of a mother throwing her baby into the river may be witnessed; the entrance to Hell created by Satanists at Satan's Hollow in Blue Ash, Cincinnati; the girl in denims and tennis shoes, who sits on her own gravestone, in Woodland Cemetery and Arboretum, Dayton; stories of Johnny Appleseed, a real nurseryman and missionary whose real name was John Chapman (he planted many apple nurseries in the Mohican area of Ohio); the ghost of Mrs Squire in Squire's Castle near Cleveland; and the story of Indian fighter Bill Quick, who had ninety-nine human skulls displayed as trophies in his cabin near Kenton and, on his death bed, made his son Tom swear to add the hundredth, little knowing that the hundredth trophy in the cabin would be placed there by a Native American warrior and would be Tom's own skull (there certainly was a Tom Quick, notorious for killing Native Americans indiscriminately, and the legend probably grew from a desire to create justice in legend if not in reality), are other legendary tales of ghosts and haunted places in Ohio.

Attractions and Sights/Places to See in Ohio

The tomb of President McKinley in Canton; Cedar Point amusement park; Fountain Square in Cincinnati; the stately Stan Hywet Hall and Garden in Akron; Cleveland Museum of Art; the art deco Cincinnati Museum Center; the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland; Cleveland Metroparks Zoo; Chateau Laroche in Loveland; Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Garden in Columbus; Glamorgan Castle in Alliance (now part of a school but tours are sometimes arranged); and Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden, are among the attractions of Ohio.

The USA is one of the most developed and technologically advanced countries in the world, yet has preserved much of its wilderness and beautiful scenery. Be as familiar with famous places as you might like to be with famous people. Indianapolis, San Diego, Chicago, Juneau, New Orleans, Kansas City, Fort Lauderdale, Boston, Detroit, Honolulu, Fairbanks, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Houston, San Francisco, Corpus Christi, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Seattle, Skagway, Minneapolis, Dallas, Anchorage, Lake Tahoe, Miami, Santa Fe, New York, Washington DC, Salt Lake City, Sitka, Savannah, Atlanta, Albuquerque, Sacramento and St Louis. If you have seen those cities, you have at least seen the most famous ones in the USA. Visiting all fifty states is something that even most Americans cannot manage but it is possible to visit those cities, as well as other iconic destinations such as Mount Rainier National Park, Yellowstone National Park, Hawaiian volcanoes such as Mauna Loa, the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, the beach at Waikiki in Hawaii, rodeos, the Florida Keys, the Appalachians, Glacier Bay National Park, Niagara Falls, the Ozarks, Route 66, Yosemite National Park, Mount Rushmore, Native American nations such as the Navajo and the Hopi, Mount McKinley and fabulous wildlife in Denali National Park, the plantations and bayous of the Mississippi Delta, the Okefenokee Swamp, the Arctic wilderness of Alaska, the California coastline, the Everglades, the wild west town of Tombstone, the Disney resorts, the Adirondacks and Marvellous scenery and sea life in Kenai Fjords National Park. Casually mentioning places that you have visited can be as impressive as mentioning the names of celebrities that you have met. We hope that you found today's Camelopard tip useful.
